EDGE Project Information

When trying to decide what to do for my EDGE project I knew that I wanted it to be meaningful and still be tied into my Geology Major. It took a while longer than expected because I planned and tried to implement 3 different projects. All of which fell through for various reasons. Once I decided to go on the combined Geology/Biology study abroad trip to Nicaragua I became aware that there could be a project opportunity. This is where it started.

Being a single parent time becomes a very important factor when you work in the field. It can be a struggle if it is not something your children can attend. The study abroad trip aided me in time by combining not only the opportunity to learn my passion in a different location but also get some field trip requirements for graduation, and to complete my EDGE Project completed.

I teamed up with a fellow Geology student also going on the trip and together we decided to create a Hazard map and alternate evacuation route for the communities surrounding the volcano Masaya in Nicaragua. Together we did a lot of preliminary research and planning before leaving on the trip.
